Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
